Pedro Ayau, MD
Co - Founder
MD, US Board Certified, Member of Guatemalan College of Physicians and Surgeons (March, 2018), Guatemala City, Guatemala Medical Degree from Francisco Marroquin University (UFM) School of Medicine in Guatemala.
Pedro has had the opportunity to attend different internship programs in surgery in the United States (Cleveland and Detroit) and Spain (Madrid). He has experience in medical research and has publications nationally and internationally. Pedro works as an outpatient doctor of adult medicine in Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro Hospital. He also serves as Professor and supervisor of the rotation of Ambulatory Medicine for UFM School of Medicine. In addition, Pedro is also an entrepreneur and is associated with several projects: Medfit Scrubs, a Guatemalan company that manufactures and designs uniforms for students, nurses and doctors since 2013, of which he is jointly founder and CEO. He is also co-founder and President of Arena Negra Co. Brand, clothing brand inspired by extreme sports in Guatemala in order to grow tourism in the country. It is worth mentioning that Pedro has been trained in Disruptive Innovations by ACTON MBA in entrepreneurship at the Francisco Marroquín University.
Carlos Dionicio, MD
Medical Operations Coordinator
MD, MSc International Cooperation & Humanitarian Help (1st year), Military physician, Second Captain, Member of Guatemalan College of Physicians and Surgeons, Guatemala City, Guatemala
Carlos obtained his Medical and Surgery degree at the University of San Carlos of Guatemala and is currently studying the first year of the Master’s Degree in International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid by the Kalu Institute (Online) in Madrid, Spain. Prior to VOLUNCA Carlos obtained the title of Medical Officer, Captain Segundo assimilated for his services rendered with the Kaibil Special Military Forces where he provided attention and worked as a combat medic in missions carried out by the special forces unit in the Stabilization Mission of the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo -MONUSCO- (Dec 2016 – April 2018) for the United Nations Organization (UN). In addition to having national and international publications I work for the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP) in the development of several research projects which highlights the National Disability Survey in 2016 (CONADI, LSHTM, UNICEF). He was also a member of the Institutional Ethics Committee of INCAP in 2016. Carlos, who has several years of interest and preparation in the fields of research, public health and humanitarian aid, has several certificates that accredit him in these fields.
Omar has a strong passion in the game theory and gamification field. He has been applying his knowledge as a Coach, theater improviser and working on software development for a long time. This led him to found GameBoard Tech, PragaWebStudio, and he is a member of Expanse team.
Omar is not only VOLUNCA’s web designer and developer but also a mentor in this field. Omar has a BAs in Systems Engineering from San Carlos University of Guatemala, a Gamification certificated from University of Pennsylvania and Business, executive, and life coaching certificated by Mens Venilia International.
Guillermo Sánchez, MD
Co - Founder
Medical Doctor certified by the Guatemalan College of Physicians and Surgeons, Stem Cell researcher in the AO Research Institute, and CEO of Central America Medical Partners, Guillermo is thrilled to dedicate his skills to uniting a country through volunteering.
He’s had the opportunity to participate in traumatology and surgery programs in Rambam Hospital, Israel, and in infectious disease in the Henry Ford Hospital, MI, USA. He has extensive experience in medical scientific research that makes him a creditor of numerous international studies and publications, several presentations of both research poster and oral presentations. Guillermo held the position of Instructor and supervisor of the UFM rotation of Ambulatory Medicine of the UFM. In addition, Guillermo was awarded the “Agent of Change” merit, granted by the official institution in charge of Disaster Management for Guatemala, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction, (CONRED)due to the high impact of his efforts during the volcanic eruption of Volcán de Fuego in 2018.
Paola Cordón Slowing
BS in Clinical Psychology, Ontologycal Coaching, Guatemala City, Guatemala
Paola has a degree in Clinical Psychology from Rafael Landivar University (URL) in Guatemala, and is certified as a Ontological Coach (Accreditation ACSTH), MMK Coaching Institute, Miami, FL, Training in Crisis Care and mourning, Grupo Creare, Guatemala , among others. She worked as a Therapist in the Abuse and Crisis Intervention Unit of the Human Rights Office (PDH) in Guatemala (where she once served as president of the practitioners association) and previously as a Psychopedagogical Therapist of an independent psychology clinic. At this time, she provide advisory services on work environment for companies in the country. Paola spent a year in Chile working as a Research Assistant for a study at the University of Development in that country.
Ana has a Bachelor in science in Clinical Nutrition by Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala and Graduated with honors, she participated in a few exchange programs as an student in Spain (Navarra) and as BaS in the USA (Texas). Ana joined VOLUNCA as Coordinator of Nutrition program in August after volunteer with us for a few times in the shelters for the people affected by the Volcano Eruption.
She has worked as a Nutritionist in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Escuintla’s Regional Hospital and in La Paz private Hospital in Guatemala City. Currently Ana is working as an instructor and supervisor of Clinical Nutrition Rotation for UFM School of Nutrition in Obras Sociales del Hermano Pedro Hospital.
Rolando Obiols, MD
Co - Founder
MD, MSc in Bioethics (2nd year), Member of Guatemalan College of Physicians and Surgeons (October 2018), Guatemala City, Guatemala. Rolando obtained his Medical Degree from San Carlos University (USAC) School of Medicine in Guatemala, won the first prize for
scientific research in 2018 from USAC School of Medicine. He is currently a second year student of the MSc in Bioethics at Istmo University (UNIS) in Guatemala.
He worked as Technical Director of the Medical Referral Center “aQ’on Jay” of the FUDI Foundation in Tecpan, Guatemala, which seeks to facilitate access to capabilities and opportunities for integral development of individuals, families and communities of low income resources, where Rolando developed and ran many projects to improve life quality for those people in rural areas.
Rolando currently works implementing the Occupational Medicine program for Precon Group, a consolidated company as one of the largest construction companies in the range of civil works in Guatemala and Central America.
Rolando is also an entrepreneur and is involved in several projects as LifeSquad GT, a company dedicated to civilians first aid education, where he is a Founding Partner and Executive Director.
On the other hand, he serves as advisor for the master’s programs for UNIS Health Sciences School. In addition, he is responsible for the organization of several international medical volunteer programs in Guatemala in association with DOCARE International and Global Initiative Health (Tx, USA).
Medical and volunteer response Coordinator
Jade is an experienced Registered Nurse and Nursing Lecturer, specialized in pediatric emergencies. She is a passionate health and first aid educator and a well traveled nursing-medical educator. She received her formal training of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, in Australia, however has gained vast experience working and volunteering around the world in the Public Health field for NGO’s, and in the public and private hospitals in Tanzania, Peru, London and Guatemala. She is the founder of Baby Steps First Aid, a pediatric focused, first aid training business for parents and families, including child care workers and professionals, in Guatemala. Her latest venture in Guatemala has been coordinating the medical response in conjunction with the public and private sector, after the devastating eruption of Volcan de Fuego in Guatemala, June 2018.
Mercedes Molina, MD
Mercedes joined the VOLUNCA team in June 2018, she became involved after participating on many occasions as a medical volunteer within the Volcán de Fuego catastrophe. Mercedes has carried out volunteer organizing functions within VOLUNCA, especially being credited with recruiting more people to become involved in volunteer activities. Mercedes is a doctor and surgeon from the Faculty of Medicine of the Mariano Gálvez University (UMG) of Guatemala, and he also has accreditations in first aid and life support in medical emergencies.She is currently the CEO and owner of Ecocenter Consultorio (Diagnostic Imaging Center) in Sopó, Colombia and J.techMED, who present services and diagnostic imaging solutions in Colombia.
